Acanthocalycium catamarcense. Sunset: 16,17,21-24; USDA: 10-12. Full sun in cooler gardens, partial shade elsewhere. Frost tolerance: 15° F. Usually solitary gowth to 5" tall, 4" diameter. Yellow, red or white flowers. Origin: Argentina
Acanthocalycium ferrari. USDA: 8b-11. Frost hardy to 10° F for short durations. Growth Habits: Usually solitary growth to 8" tall, 5" diameter. Summer, regular water; winter little to no water. Yellow or orange flowers, up to 2" diameter. Origin: Argentina.

Arequipa erectocylindrica (syn. Oreocereus hempelianus). USDA: 8-10. Hardy to 10° F for short periods. Full sun to light shade, needs protection in hottest desert gardens. Columnar cactus usually clustering, up to 18" tall. Moderate water spring and summer, no water in winter. Tubular red flowers. Attracts hummingbirds. Origin: Peru and Chile, Andes mountains above 5000 ft.
Ariocarpus agavoides (Living rock cactus). USDA: 10-11. Hardy to 26° F. Full sun to light shade, needs protection in hottest desert gardens. Rosette shaped spineless succulent, up to 3" in diameter. Moderate water summer, no water in winter. Magenta flowers, 1.5 inches in diameter. Origin: Mexico. Endangered plant.

Solitary spineless, grows very slowly to 8" in diameter. Little water summer, no water in winter. Pink to Magenta flowers, 1.5 inches in diameter. Origin: Texas, New Mexico and Northern Mexico.

Needs limestone in soil, soil must have good drainage. 1- 2" white to yellowish white flowers with a satin sheen. Origin: Mexico at 2000 to 4000 feet.
