Echinocactus ingens. (Biznaga Gigante). Synonyms: Echinocactus karwinskii, Echinocactus helophorus, Echinocactus visnaga,(USDA 9b-11) Hardy to 25 F. Full sun. Regular summer water, dry winter. Yellow flowers. Solitary up to 7' tall, 3' wide. Origin: Central Mexico.
Echinocactus platyacanthus. Syn: Echinocactus palmeri

Echinocactus texensis (Horse Crippler). Syn. Homalocephala texensis. Sunset: 10-13; USDA: 5-11. Hardy to 0° F. Full sun to light shade in hot gardens. Light summer water, dry winter. Provide good drainage. Solitary when young, slowly clustering, 12" in diameter, 8" high. Pink flowers. Origin: Texas, southeastern New Mexico, northeastern Mexico.

Usually clumping, often forming large clumps occasionally of several hundreds stems, each stem up to 12" tall, 3" in diameter . Red or orange flowers with light colored center. Origin: Arizona, New Mexico, northwestern Mexico.
