Aloe 'Big Mac'  Big maculate' aloe. A robust, large-growing, shrubby aloe hybrid likely derived from a cross between Aloe maculata (Soap Aloe) and Aloe arborescens (Torch Aloe).

  • Growth Habit & Form: Forms massive, dense clusters that reach 4 to 5 feet tall and wide. Individual rosettes spread roughly 18 inches across.

  • Foliage: Thick, fleshy, dull-green leaves with light H-shaped spots (inherited from A. maculata). Under high sun or drought stress, the foliage flushes with attractive purplish, maroon, or reddish tones.

  • Bloom: In spring, it sends up stout, sparingly branched inflorescences bearing dark tubular red flowers that sit well above the main canopy, drawing in hummingbirds and other pollinators.

  • Landscape Role: Because of its bulk, it functions well as a durable architectural specimen, visual accent, or barrier planting in xeriscapes and arid gardens.
